Tips for Healthy Skin - Renew Your Healthy Glow
We all strive for healthy, younger-looking skin. But what is the best way to achieve a healthy glow? The following 4 tips will put you on a path to a healthier you for years to come.
Cleanse Your Skin, but Don’t Scrub
Gentle cleansers and mild soaps can efficiently clean your skin without deteriorating or drying your skin. Harsh chemicals can remove natural oils from your skin and rough rubbing can stretch your skin and promote wrinkles.
If you enjoy really hot baths or showers, try to cool the temperature a bit. Water that is too hot can also remove natural oils.
Pat dry after a bath or shower rather than rubbing and it’s ok if you don’t get 100% dry. If you moisturize semi-dry skin you’ll trap more moisture in.
Stop Smoking
You already know that smoking is bad for your lungs and your overall health, but it affects your skin too. Smoking breaks down the elasticity of the outer layer of your skin, which causes more wrinkles. Add to it the repetitive facial expressions of puffing and blowing smoke and squinting your eyes and the wrinkles continue to multiply.
Your best bet is to make a resolution to stop smoking and talk to your health care provider about the best way to accomplish your goal.
Eat Healthy
There’s no clear connection to water intake and skin health, but we do know that eating a healthy diet can help us to look and feel our best.
Some of the best foods to boost skin health include green, leafy vegetables, blueberries, tomatoes, salmon, and all yellow and orange fruit and vegetables. Choose low-fat or fat-free dairy products and choose whole grains whenever possible.
These healthy food choices are good for your skin, your health and your overall sense of well-being.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun!
Use sunscreen every day. Surprisingly, the sun’s rays can penetrate the clouds and it’s possible to damage your skin even on cloudy days. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 (higher if recommended by your doctor) all over. Don’t forget your ears and the back of your neck! In addition to the sunscreen, wear tightly woven clothing to block the sun’s rays and wear a wide-brimmed hat to shade your head, ears and neck.
If you must be out when the sun’s rays are the strongest, between 10am and 4pm, find shade whenever possible.
